Neil Tennant, I salute you

One half of the Pet Shop Boys speaks out against celebrities speaking out on issues that they have no special expertise in, specifically Bono.

Says Tennant:

“I’ve always been against the idea of rock stars lecturing people as if they know something the rest of us don’t – it looks arrogant.

“It’s not as if they have a private source of information. To state the obvious as if you are the only person that knows it is intellectually weak.”

Now, don’t get me wrong, people have the right to speak about whatever they want to and I certainly wouldn’t try to restrict someone’s soapbox just because I disagree w/ him or her.

Still, it chaps my hide to hear rock stars, actors and the like go on and on about how they know the solution to this or that problem, if only the rest of us would just follow along.
