No this isn’t some sort of sell-out, sponsored post. (Full disclosure though: I worked at Chick-Fil-A in high school and still enjoy their delicious chicken sandwiches on a regular basis.) I promised no political posts til after the election and I mean it. However, this post is tangentially related to the events of today. So, Starbucks and Krispy Kreme are “giving away” (not counting opportunity costs:) a tall coffee and a star-shaped doughnut today to
people who voted, er, I mean, everyone. I decided not to take advantage of those offers b/c of the opportunity costs involved. But, then I heard that ye old chicken hut was offering a delicious chicken sandwich at no additional cost to me. Though there was nothing on their corporate site about such an offer, I had received confirmation that Chick-Fil-A’s around the city were in fact giving out chicken sandwiches.
Lo, and behold, the rumors were true. My closest location didn’t have any lines, but I walked up to the counter and promptly received a golden, delicious bird on a bun merely for the asking. Since there really weren’t many folks in there I chatted w/ the clerk for a couple of minutes about my experiences working busy shifts and sympathized with him. Then he tells me that this wasn’t a planned offer. In fact, the first few customers this morning who asked about it were turned away before someone called the marketing department and asked what was going on. Marketing told them that a rumor had started somewhere and to go ahead and give out sandwiches to whoever asked. The fellow I talked to was extremely polite about it all, even though he admitted they had been understaffed at times and folks were pretty worn out from higher than expected customer traffic.
Good call Chick-Fil-A! Thank you!
